Cabane du Petit Mountet

Highlight • Mountain Hut

A mountain cabin perched high above the town of Zinal, and the valley in which it is located. The cabin offers unique alpine charm by being perched on a rocky ridge. There you will find food, drinks and accommodation, making it a perfect destination to take a break, or start or end a great adventure.

Bridge Over the Navisence

Highlight • Bridge

The La Navisence river is fed by the waters of the Zinal glacier. This also gives it its greenish color, because the water from the glacier also causes larger quantities of rock particles to flow into the river, which primarily reflect the green part of the light and absorb the remaining wavelengths more strongly. Towards the bottom of the valley, the river has carved a deeper gorge, bordered on both sides by shimmering green rocks. These are mainly highly metamorphic chlorite and amphibolite schists.

Lac d'Arpitettaz

Highlight • Lake

Lake Arpitettaz is a small mountain lake on the road to Cabane d’Arpitettaz. If you don't want to go to the Cabin, you can also make a loop to return to Zinal via the Roc de la Vache from the Lake.
However, there is a trick to getting to Lac d’Arpitettaz from Zinal. If you stay on the right bank of the river, you will have to take a difficult and steep passage called “Pas du Chasseur” where you will have to hang on to chains for part of the way. This is not ideal, especially if you have young children. Instead, stay on the left bank of the river towards the Cabane du Petit Mountet and from there follow the direction of Lac d'Arpitettaz. You will cross the river on a pretty modern bridge. This will add an extra 10 minutes to your hike but above all you will have peace of mind and be able to see the Zinal Waterfall. It's really worth the detour.

Easy to access from Lake Arpitettaz. You will see the Moming glacier which is 3km long and located at an altitude of 2850 m. It is subject to climate change and melts slowly... be careful in these areas in spring.

June 26, 2022,CH - Alps - Valais - Val d'Anniviers - Zinal, Roc de la Vache, Lac d'Arpitettaz, Cascade de Zinal
Today we hiked up from Zinal to the Roc de la Vache which provides stunning views on the Turtmann glacier. From there we hiked back down and took a refreshing plunge in the Lac d'Arpitettaz to cool off 😃 and followed the waterfall back to the valley.
