Hiking

On the Emerald Trail you and your children will not only experience the beauty of the Habachtal, but will also receive exciting information about the mineralogy of this region. Of course, unique rest and playgrounds should not be missing. From the Habachtal car park, which you can also reach by bus, the route always goes uphill along the stream. People climb, play and read at the different stations.

From a viewing platform you can enjoy a fantastic view of the Habach gorge and a little later you cross over a bridge to the other bank. During the last part of your hike, the valley widens and you hike across grazed alpine areas. The view of the mighty waterfall is also impressive.

With a bit of luck you can see marmots in the meadows at the Enzianhütte. Behind the Almgasthof Alpenrose, which invites you to take a break, there is an emerald mining site - can you discover a green emerald in the stream bed? Just a few minutes' walk later, the romantically located Moaalm forms the end of the Emerald Trail. To return, follow the same path or take the hiking taxi.

Start of the Smaragdweg (Habach Valley)

Highlight • Trail

Nice walking path that runs parallel to the normal path. The big advantage is that there are no cyclists or cars here. In addition, the path offers slightly more beautiful viewpoints than the main route.

Alpenrose Inn

Highlight • Restaurant

The Alpenrose is a great place to stop and offers a great emerald digging experience with the mudflow behind it. The Habach Valley is also known as the Valley of the Emeralds, as the only relevant emerald deposits in Europe can be found here. That is why mineralogists from all over the world are drawn to the valley to look for minerals.

Today, after several rainy days, the Emerald Trail was on the agenda. After rains one should have better chances to find emeralds or other stones. So today we also wanted to "Stoasuch'n". The Emerald Way is beautiful. The nature and the lovingly designed stations for the children make it a great family hike. The highlight is the emerald digging at …

Rain was forecast for the afternoon. The forecast, at least, promised no storms and mostly sunshine in the morning.

The Emerald Trail in the Habachtal Valley was therefore our chosen destination. We actually made it to the Moaalm, which we didn't want to go any further anyway, in the dry. There we were able to enjoy our meal in the …

The Emerald Trail, a beautiful hiking trail along the roaring Habach. There are small water features and information along the way. At the Alpengasthof Alpenrose there was something hearty and mining tools to borrow. Unfortunately, we were caught in a heavy downpour and the kids had to give up their emerald hunt.

The best thing to do is to take the bus up, departure times 9am, 10am and 1.30pm (available online) and then walk leisurely back down.
