Welcome to Our Kloosterpad! This day walk along the unique path past the monasteries of Central and East Brabant starts and ends at Koningshoeven Abbey in Berkel-Enschot. Along the way you will pass various highlights during 11.5 kilometers.
The Trappist monastery was founded in 1880 as a refuge for French monks, who originally came from West Flanders. However, their survival was threatened by anti-church legislation, and they were safe in Brabant. The monastery is located on a beautiful estate, and a monastic community still lives and works there.
From the monastery you follow the straight Wilhelmina Canal for a long time before you enter Tilburg. The rest of the route mainly goes through this city and shows you various cultural and religious highlights. You will pass the old town hall, which is a former 19th-century palace, and the St. Dionysius Church and Broekhoven Church. You will also visit the monument for Father De Brouwer, who had a lot of influence here in the region.
You leave the city behind you via the lovely green Leijpark and as soon as you pass the impressive Dennenhaghe house, it is not far to Koningshoeven Abbey. Upon arrival, you can enjoy a well-deserved drink in the tasting room.
You can reach the starting point of the route in Berkel-Enschot by bus from Tilburg station. You can also choose to take the route directly in Tilburg, where the path passes through. You can park close to the monastery.

This afternoon I went for an adventurous walk through Tilburg for a change. I started at Koningshoeve and walked along the Wilhelmina Canal and the Piushaven towards the center. Today we deliberately chose paved roads because of the heavy rain that has fallen recently and unpaved roads are difficult to pass. Despite the rain, not always, …
