Hiking

The short but sweet Lizard Trail brings you very close to the symbol of the Dinosaur National Monument: an enormous petroglyph of a lizard. You’ll gain a few metres in height, which will give you a great view of the landscape. In addition to the striking lizard effigies, there are other interesting stone carvings to discover.

The ascent to the towering rock formation starts at the Lizard Trail car park, where you can spot some lizards carved in stone from below. A few minutes later, you’ll be standing below the giant lizard petroglyph and at a small information board about the history of the Fremont people who left the petroglyphs.

A few steps further on you'll find more exciting images and – if you can take your eyes off the rock – you can enjoy a great view of the Cub Creek area. Take the same route back to the car park.
