This route was planned by komoot.
Very nice hike always along the edge of the crater. At the beginning there is a steep concrete slope to the crater rim, but it is even more beautiful at the top. Unfortunately, at the end it was very steep again over a concrete slope. Conclusion overall: great tour, highly recommended!!!
Today was a fantastic introductory tour. Comfortable paths in a great landscape and with fantastic views.
Nice hike with wonderful views. Back from Sete Citades by taxi
For those who only want to hike half of the crater, there is a taxi stand in Sete Cidades that will take you back to the starting point for 15 euros.
We still had a few meters to climb to the summit. The weather in the Azores...
Weather-wise, this was the best day at the crater in two weeks, see photos! 🫣 At least no rain, but fog and storms with gusts of up to 100 km/h, and finally, a challenge: we accidentally entered a downhill trail – there were no signs at the top. We realized it after 100 meters, but by then it was too late. Somehow, we made it down, which was really difficult in places (definitely T4, and incredibly slippery). At the end, there was a no-use sign referring to Komoot 😁.
Wonderful excursion, long but very rewarding, with a stop for a snack in Sete Cidades, where there is a well-stocked buffet bar (recommended!) Right in front of the church.
Today is the first hike on Sao Miguel. We drive to a parking lot over the crater lakes Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde. The first part of the path goes past sequoia trees almost like in a jungle. Then comes an unfinished hotel and there are also many tourists visiting the hotel and the view of the lakes. We go on and are back to Sete Cidades for ourselves. The Sao Nicolauo church is there and there is also a lot of police. So let's wait and not long then the peace journey rushes by. The rest of the way around the crater runs uphill on a gravel road. Fortunately, only a few cars are driven because of the dust. The path climbs up to the highest point. Since there is another parking lot nearby, there are many visitors. It was a nice lap today, but very different from Madeira. When we get back to the campsite, he only has 3 campers with us. A place to switch off and relax.
