This lovely loop allows practitioners of all levels to experience a slight change in altitude without any major difficulty. The route offers a route that climbs to the foot of Chamechaude passing through a few “haberts”. Mainly used in the Chartreuse and Belledonne massifs, a “habert” designates a small shepherd’s house located in the mountain pastures.
The route starts from the center of Sappey-en-Chartreuse on a small path at the bottom of the valley. The path gradually gains height towards the Emeindras-de-dessus mountain pasture. You move through a calm and peaceful forest which ultimately leads to a first habert, that of Emeindras. Built in the heart of a green mountain pasture, it offers a breathtaking view of the Chamechaude.
A slightly descending portion leads to the Col d’Emeindras then continues on a ridge under the fir trees. After a few bends, you discover the meadow which borders the impressive rock face of Chamechaude. The habert of the same name is located slightly below under the trees. Located at the foot of the highest point of the Chartreuse, it offers a privileged view of the roof of the massif.
The last part of the route is mainly downhill from the shelter. The route follows the GR 9 markings entirely until reaching Sappey-en-Chartreuse. The descent begins with a series of bends before returning to a smoother path to complete the loop.
