You don't always have to walk on the levadas. There are nice / cheap beach bars on Praia Formosa.
For a week in Madeira. A hike along the coast to the fishing village of Camare de Lobos. Actually, the path leads constantly along the coast. You also have to go through a short tunnel. Unfortunately, this is closed until May 2023 due to construction work. That's why you have to go around it uphill. Quite exhausting and frustrating because the "landscape" is not very appealing there. But in the end you are back at the sea or at a bar. The fishing village is worth seeing and many buses go back to Funchal.
Totally relaxed hike from Funchal to the fishing village in the southwest of the island; and always the sea within reach. Unfortunately, the pedestrian tunnel da Doca do Cavacas is not accessible. (next time 😉) We had the perfect day with very sunny weather and a light breeze from the sea - this excursion is a must when visiting Madeira.🤩
Today from Funchal to Camara de Lobos always along the beach promenade. Very nice route.
Now we're done cycling. Today was time to relax. So we set off for a walk in Camara de Lobos in the direction of Funchal. The fishing village of Câmara de Lobos became famous because British Prime Minister Winston Churchill immortalized the place in many of his paintings. Some of the pictures taken at that time can now be seen in his former residence in Kent (England). A wonderful path that also led through a tunnel. When the hotel complexes started to appear in Funchal, it was a complete nightmare for tourists. One hotel after the other. How anyone can vacation here is a mystery to us. And of course there is no nice sandy beach.
After the rainy night, it continues to pour this morning. 😞 That's why we decide not to walk from the hotel, but "only" along the coast, as you can stop there at any time. Start in the original fishing village of Camara de Lobos. The majority of Madeira wine is grown and produced here. A well-known manufacturer includes Henrique & Henrique. We go to the winery to do a wine tasting - but unfortunately it's closed on Sundays 😞. In addition to wine growing, another important industry in this region is banana growing. After the village tour, the rain eases up 😀. We walk along the coast along a promenade path, the Caminhodo Rei, the royal path above the sea. Unfortunately mostly tar roads.
The cool autumn weather at home drove us to Madeira. At the start we walked to the neighboring and fishing village of Carma de Lobos.🐟 Along the sea, a beautiful footpath leads to a romantic place that lives from fishing and especially from tourists. Fresh fish 🐡 is one reason to come to Camara de Lobos and the drinks. A colorful bar scene has emerged at the harbor. Our choice fell on Poncha, a high-proof sugar cane schnapps mixed with orange juice and honey. 🍹The Madeirans are a very friendly people and you immediately feel at home. In order not to have to walk along a street without a sidewalk, we decided to take the same route back by the sea, it seemed safer to us.
Spontaneously explored the new footpath 👍 from THE picturesque (Churchill) fishing village of Camara de Lobos 🦭 to Funchal with slippers along the Atlantic 🥰 and many new hotels 🤔.
