Hiking

Do you want an unobstructed view of as many mountains as possible, but don't want to just sit around twiddling your thumbs? Then you should hike the Saalachtal High Trail from the Asitz to the Biberg. It's about 13 kilometers long, easy to walk, and perfect for a family hike.

Starting at the Asitz in Leogang, you'll hike along the ridges of grassy mountains. You can let your gaze wander over the Steinberge, the Steinernes Meer, and the main Alpine ridge. The trail leads you past a natural cinema and through wonderful, protected natural areas. Don't forget to pack plenty of drinks and a small picnic, as there are no places to eat or drink between the start and finish.

You can take the Asitz cable car up to the top, and you can hike down from the Biberg or take the summer toboggan run. Food and drink are available at the beginning of the hike at the Asitz or at the end at the Biberg, either at the Biberg mountain inn or the Huggenberg mountain inn.

There is a really big cinema here! Especially at sunrise the atmosphere is terrific and the view of the Steinerne Meer and the Leoganger Steinberge are unforgettable. The cinema room consists of wooden loungers, chairs and outdoor hammocks.

Biberg Mountain Inn

Highlight • Mountain Hut

High above Saalfelden, at an altitude of around 1,400 meters, lies the Berggasthof Biberg. Here you will not only find a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains, but also the culinary delights of traditional home cooking. Definitely worth a stop once you have mastered the way up. Just sit down and enjoy.

Tip for winter: rent a sledge and ride back to the valley on two runners!

First of all: forget the information from Komoot. If pure walking time was 2 hours and an average of 6 km / h, Wonderwoman calls me. But I'm not. I was traveling slowly. A total of 5:45 hours. If you subtract perhaps 1 hour of breaks and photo stops, then it works better. I guess my cell phone couldn't take …

A very nice hike with great weather. In the end it was just very exhausting because we had to walk from the chairlift to the Saalbach train station, take the train to Leogang, and from there to the holiday apartment.
