The trail offers typical highlights of the Danube Valley, including the Princely Park and the Danube. Camp Himmelberg, one of the nature park's trekking camps, is also located along the trail. The trail begins directly on the banks of the Danube in Laiz, which you can also reach by bus from Sigmaringen train station. You cross the river and follow the dike wall towards Inzigkofen, never losing sight of the tranquil waters.
Reaching the end of the wall, you walk along a gravel path to the Amalienfelsen junction. Reaching the viewpoint on the rock requires a short detour, but it's definitely worth it, as up there you have a magnificent view of the bend of the Danube flowing below.
Back on the main trail, the trail briefly follows the banks of the Danube, then turns sharply left towards Inzigkofen Monastery. You cross the monastery grounds and shortly afterwards descend to the Devil's Bridge mentioned above. According to legend, it was built by the devil himself in exchange for a human soul from the residents of Inzigkofen. But don't worry, that was a long time ago. You can take your time crossing and a little later – at the Känzele (small church) – enjoy the wonderful view of the Danube Valley.
That's exactly where you'll descend. First, parallel to the banks of the Danube, then crossing the river again, you'll now head towards Gebrochen Gutenstein, a ruin worth exploring. Through the romantic Schmeietal valley, past the historic Gypsy Rock, and finally, delighted once again with a wonderful view from the Split Rock, you'll slowly but surely hike back to your starting point.
