Do you love forests, history and pancakes? Then quickly put on your walking shoes and go out for more than 8 kilometers at Amelisweerd and Rhijnauwen. You end your day in a cozy tea house, where they serve the tastiest pancakes.

But before that happens, you first leave for the Oud- and Nieuw-Amelisweerd estates. The history of the estates dates back to the 13th century. The country estates are beautiful to admire from the outside and at Oud-Amelisweerd art lovers should definitely go inside.

A little further on, the Middle Ages make way for the 19th century, when Fort Rhijnauwen was built. The fort is part of the New Dutch Waterline. Feel free to deviate from the path to further explore the fort. Via quiet paths and along the Kromme Rijn you then walk to the Rhijnauwen homestead and the Rhijnauwen castle, a stately 18th-century country house.

You are now almost at Theehuis Rhijnauwen, where you can end your walk in an atmospheric way. Not only can you come here for a cup of coffee, tea or chocolate milk to warm up, you also get the tastiest pancakes here. In winter you can enjoy the cozy tea house here and in spring and summer you can relax on the terrace. That pancake tastes even better while enjoying a beautiful view over the water.

The route starts and ends at the Rhijnauwen car park. Are you coming by public transport? Then take the bus to Bunnik, Rhijnauwenselaan.

June 11, 2026,🇳🇱 Bunnik | Landgoed Rhijnauwen & Amelisweerd, Langs De Kromme Rijn
After a week full of rain, this drier day seemed like an invitation I couldn't ignore. So, off to Bunnik for a walk through one of the most beautiful green areas around Utrecht.

From the very first meters along the Kromme Rijn, it felt like the hustle and bustle was far away. The babbling water, the old trees, and the …

A nice warm Mother's Day brought many hikers and water sports enthusiasts to Amelisweerd. It was really quiet only in a few places.

Part 2 of the Kromme Rijnpad. Now from Rhijnauwen to Nieuw-Amelisweerd and back. Beautiful route under the smoke of the Uithof through cultivated forest and along the rippling Kromme Rijn where possible.

Today we had a lovely walk along the Kromme Rijn river near Utrecht. Parking at the sports fields was great, but it was a good thing we weren't too late because of the football match, as the Utrecht stadium is nearby.

Despite the drizzling weather, Jacco and I decided to go a hike. The area, sandwiched between highways, Utrecht and Bunnik, is surprisingly beautiful. The Kromme Rijn river meanders here through the beautiful countryside. Along the river you'll find beautiful country and old farm houses. There are several places where you can have lunch and coffee. I guess that it can …

Today we walked this fun and varied route. Afterward, we found a spot at the pancake restaurant. It's actually a really nice idea to have a nice meal together after a walk. Thanks for the new inspiration, and we'll try the other routes too.
