Hiking

Embark on the Land's End loops from Porthcurno, a moderate hike spanning 10.3 miles (16.6 km) with an elevation gain of 980 feet (299 metres), typically taking around 4 hours and 36 minutes to complete. You will experience dramatic coastal scenery along the South West Coast Path, featuring granite cliffs, rocky headlands, and stunning beaches like Porthcurno Beach and the secluded Pedn Vounder. The route also guides you through peaceful inland countryside lanes, offering a diverse and engaging hiking experience.

While generally considered moderate, be prepared for a path that is very "twisty and up and down" with many ascents and descents, especially along the coastal sections. Some parts, like the descent to Porthcurno Beach, can be steep and rocky. Good fitness is recommended, and care is needed in wet weather as conditions can be slippery. The trail is accessible from Porthcurno, a village known for its beautiful beach and the iconic Minack Theatre carved into the cliffs.

This area is rich in natural beauty and history, designated as a coastal Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its biodiversity. You can spot various bird species and maritime vegetation. Porthcurno itself holds historical significance as a hub for international communications, being the British end of the first submarine cables to India in 1870. Along the path, you might also discover ancient artifacts like a Bronze Age tumulus near Bosistow Island.

Minack Theatre

Highlight • Monument

The iconic Minack Theater is a unique open-air venue, perched on a cliff. It was created by Rowena Cade, who spent her life designing and building the structures you see here today.
The Minack is both a working theater and a tourist attraction. When there are no performances, it is open for visitors. Advance booking is recommended for all visits and events to avoid disappointment.

Porthgwarra Beach

Highlight • Cave

Remote, relatively unknown Cornish Cove, largely owned by Lord St Levan (of St Micheal's Mount). Located just under 3 miles south east of Lands End.
There is a small beach at low tide with an array of interesting rock pools and caves. There are many reminders of Porthgwarra's fishing past.

Pordenack Point Cliffs

Highlight • Climb

The section of the South West Coast Path here at Pordenack Point is simply beautiful. It is the first major headland south of Land's End. There are beautiful coastal views to be had from here, especially south towards the headland of Carn Boe. The finest granite cliffs in Cornwall are to be found here, between Pordenack and Porthgwarra in the south.

The views from Pordenack Point, the first major headland South of Land's End, are spectacular. To the North you can see the wonderful natural arch of Enys Dodnan.
This area is a coastal Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its biodiversity, in particular bird passage migrants and maritime vegetation.

Land's End

Highlight • Viewpoint

One of the most famous places in the UK, Land's End is the most westerly point of England. It's located on Cornwall's jagged coast and has numerous hiking and cycling trails leading past it, including the South West Coast Path. It's also one of the end points of the Land's End to John O'Groats multi-route adventure.

Land's End itself has become somewhat of a tourist destination, with cafes, attractions and the famous sign with distant places marked on it. Its busyness aside, it is often either the beginning or the end of endurance activities, and has a special place in the hearts of those who visit.

Thanks Martin, felt like being abroad. So nice down there.

The Lands End Coaster runs from Sennen Cove to Porthcurno. From there you start the hike

After our zero-day yesterday, the stage started again in Land's End. Unfortunately, there was no breakfast at our campsite today. It's still off-season. But where the tourists arrive early in the morning, coffee isn't far away. At 8:30, we even had the legendary photo point to ourselves, without the annoying photographer trying to rip you off. We continued on very good paths and spectacular views along the coast. There were even two small places to stop for refreshments along the way. In the last third, the trail turns into a rather impenetrable jungle, which also increased the suspense as to whether we were even still on the right path. The owner of the campsite told us that locals call this cliff "Death Valley." It gives us some consolation that we survived and is therefore definitely a good story worth telling.

A fantastic tour in the extreme west of Cornwall with fascinating scenery.

Land's End is the westernmost part of England. From here, you can enjoy a wonderful hike along the coast, with plenty of ups and downs. Unfortunately, you have to walk back almost the same way, otherwise you'll have to go back along the road!
