The last Tour is, perhaps, the simplest of the entire Collection. It's not an easy route, but you won't find the steep climbs you've seen so far.
The aim is to introduce you to one of the areas most loved by the inhabitants of Ticino and northern Piedmont. The protagonist climb of this Tour, in fact, follows the itinerary of the railway line that connects Domodossola to Locarno and which is called Centovalli.
The Tour starts from Verbania-Pallanza station, well connected to Milan. Follow Lake Maggiore for 45 kilometers, arriving in the Swiss pearl of the lake, Ascona. Here you leave Lake Maggiore and enter the Centovalli valley near Intragna. A cycleable climb allows you to follow the Melazza river, which gives way to Lake Palagnedra just before the border between Camedo and Ribellasca.
Crossing the border also marks the beginning of the Vigezzo valley. In the small town of Re you can appreciate an immense sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna.
Near Malesco it leaves the Vigezzo valley. Turn left and enter the Cannobina valley, reaching the Scopello pass, dedicated to Marco Pantani. The descent passes through narrow, scenic and sparsely populated roads. You re-enter human civilization only in Cannobio, that is when you return to Lake Maggiore. The last 30 kilometers of flat land take you back to the Verbania-Pallanza station.
