Bamburgh Castle to Harkness Rocks Circular Walk • Distance: 10.2 km (6.3 miles) • Time: 3–3.5 hours • Grade: Easy–Moderate (190 m of ascent, gentle climbs, mostly level) • Start/Finish: Wynding Road (height restriction of 2.05 m & free) Enjoy a scenic circular walk combining peaceful country lanes, rolling farmland, and the dramatic Northumberland coastline. Heading anti-clockwise, from the car park at Wynding Road, the first half of the route takes you along the coastline with sweeping sea views and a spectacular perspective of Bamburgh Castle rising above the dunes. The paths are easy enough to follow, and you are on the road until the golf club. Then you go inland on quiet tracks with good views of the surrounding countryside with the last bit of the return leg on the B1342 coming into Bamburgh. Then you can finish the walk off with a visit to this great castle before heading back to the car park. This route is straightforward underfoot, with only small undulations, making it suitable for most walkers. Don’t forget your camera – the section by Harkness Rocks offers some of the best castle views in the area. A perfect half-day walk for combining history, landscape, and sea air.
