The Tour from Col Raiser to Rifugio Firenze and Malga Pieralongia loop typically takes around 2 hours and 44 minutes to complete. It is considered a moderate hike, requiring good fitness and sure-footedness due to varied terrain and some steep sections.
The trail starts from Col Raiser, which is easily accessible via a cable car from Santa Cristina. This allows you to begin your hike directly in the scenic alpine pastures, bypassing a significant initial climb from the valley floor.
The route features a diverse mix of terrain, including gravel paths, unpaved sections, natural alpine ground, and dedicated hiking trails. You'll encounter rocky areas, lush alpine meadows, and some forested parts. Be prepared for steep ascents and descents, with some paths reinforced for safety.
You'll pass by several notable spots, including the welcoming Regensburger Hut / Rifugio Firenze and Pieralongia Hut, both great for refreshments. The trail also offers incredible View of the Odle Peaks, and you might spot the impressive 60-meter-high menhir at Pieralongia.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly. However, since the area is part of the Puez-Odle Nature Park, it's advisable to keep dogs on a leash to protect wildlife and respect other hikers and grazing animals. Always carry water for your dog.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike this trail. The area is part of the Puez-Odle Nature Park, which emphasizes conservation, but access to the trails themselves is free.
The best time to hike this trail is typically from late spring through early autumn (June to September). During these months, the weather is generally favorable, and the rifugios are open. Winter hiking is possible but requires specialized gear and experience due to snow and ice.
Yes, sections of this route overlap with other trails. You'll find parts of the Dolomites World Heritage Geotrail 11, MTB 8: Sot a la Odles, and MTB 298: Raida dla Utia de Ncisles along the way.
Yes, there are several mountain huts (rifugios) and alpine dairies (malgas) along the route where you can stop for refreshments, snacks, or even a meal. Notable options include Rifugio Firenze (Regensburger Hütte) and Malga Pieralongia.
Given the moderate difficulty and varied terrain, it's recommended to pack sturdy hiking boots, layers of clothing suitable for changing mountain weather, rain gear, sun protection, sufficient water, snacks, and a map or GPS device. Trekking poles can also be helpful on steeper sections.
While considered moderate, the trail's varied terrain, including some steep and rocky sections, means it's best suited for families with older children who have some hiking experience and good fitness. Younger children might find certain parts challenging.
Fantastically beautiful hike via the Regensburger Hut. The valley towards the two gaps is sensational and absolutely quiet. Stop at the Pieralongia Hut with a wonderful panorama. Simply a dream 🤩
Today we wanted to take it a little easier. No sooner said than done! Drive to the Col Raiser car park, then take the gondola (round trip 30 euros/as of July 2024, tickets can be reserved online at https://shop.dolomitisuperski.com/eshop-area.aspx) to the mountain station. After fighting our way through the maze of people, we could finally relax and breathe in clean, clear air on the climb. On small, narrow mountain paths, our mouths dropped after every bend. One dream panorama after another! I personally liked the alpine pasture at Plan Ciautier. Like a painting - only more beautiful. The further we went, the fewer people. Finally, we passed the riverbed of the Cisesbach, which resembles a moray eel without water. Then, with every step on the descent, we got closer and closer to the Regensburger Hut. The service was good, friendly and fast, but too loud and too hectic to eat in peace. Everything seemed very hectic and loud. It's a real shame in such a beautiful setting. From there we were able to walk the rest of the way to the Col Raiser mountain station in 25 minutes, and then relax on the gondola ride back down. A great day! Tour template: komoot
