The Riella is one of the most popular refuges for those who practice trekking in northern Italy. Its splendid position, at an altitude of 1,275 metres, allows you to admire a splendid view of Lake Como. A very steep path starts from the refuge and leads quickly up to Mount Palanzone.

Monte Palanzone (1,436m asl) is one of the main peaks of the Lariano Triangle, second in height only to Monte San Primo.
The peak looks like a grassy pyramid that rises along the Como ridge. From afar it can be recognized by the presence of a pyramidal chapel.
It can be reached easily from the peak of Sormano or from Alpe del Vicerè. In this case you have to take into account a minimum of effort to overcome the steep final slope.
The itineraries that start from Caslino d'Erba or from Asso on the east side or from the hamlets of Faggeto Lario on the west side are longer and more demanding.

Nice panoramic tour (when the weather is nice, so not today) to do in half a day. Medium altitude difference with many steep ups and downs only in a couple of sections. No difficulty but with rain it can be very muddy. Climbed from the Sormano wall. Part of the trail is on cobblestones and dirt road.

For those who have a car, I recommend starting from the Bar Ristorante Colma in Colma di Sormano where you really start walking on paths and mule tracks, thus avoiding that long stretch of tiring route (between A and B), purely cycling, on asphalt and all uphill like I did.
