The path starts from the town of Fiumenero near the cemetery and goes up into the valley through the woods with a moderate slope. Once you have passed the Valsecca you pass on the left side of the river crossing a bridge and from here the path begins to climb more steeply up to the plain of the Cascina del Campo.
In a short time you arrive at the Aser plains at 1,600 meters above sea level and, after crossing a wooden bridge, the hairpin bends begin which allow you to gain altitude, not without difficulty, up to 2,200 meters above sea level.
You find yourself at the crossroads with the Orobie path that comes from the Calvi refuge and from here, you soon arrive at the gates of the Baroni al Brunone refuge at 2,297 meters above sea level, one of the highest refuges in the Orobie.
The Baroni al Brunone refuge is one of the most difficult to reach and for this reason on the path, you will only meet true mountain enthusiasts, of a mountain that in these places is particularly wild and uncontaminated.
Suddenly you find yourself in front of the gloomy eastern wall of the Pizzo del Diavolo di Tenda and one step away from the highest elevations of the Orobie, those mountains that exceed 3,000 meters above sea level, such as the Pizzo Redorta and the Pizzo Scais.
The Baroni al Brunone refuge is the oldest refuge in the Orobie area. During a social trip of the CAI of Bergamo to Pizzo Redorta, on 29 July 1890, the members were forced by bad weather to take shelter in the old miners' hut. They immediately realized its state of abandonment and decided to replace it.
The refuge was inaugurated on 23 September 1894 with the name Brunona refuge. Engineer Luigi Albani's project built the refuge just below the miners' hut. The refuge was later renovated and dedicated, in 1968, to the mountain guide Antonio Baroni, who died in 1912 and was among the first discoverers of the Bergamo mountains.
