Hiking
This circular hike, which starts at Herzogenrath Alt-Merkstein train station, runs through the wild meadow landscape of the Wurm directly on the German-Dutch border. After a visit to the Church of St. Willibrordus, it's off into the countryside. You pass the nature park Worm-Wildnis and then hike on to the Nivelsteiner Sandwerken. A viewing platform offers you an impressive overview of the works and the surrounding landscape.
Then it gets really wild and natural, because the floodplain forests of the Wurm are waiting for you. The water rushes, frogs croak in the ponds and you can discover beaver tracks along the way. Other rare animal species such as the kingfisher also live in this sanctuary. You walk along the river to the Baalsbrugger Mühle, and then follow the Mühlenweg back to the starting point of the circular hike.
