Glenveagh National Park (100 km²) consists of a valley and a large lake, with a beautiful, romantic castle and magnificent flower gardens. The granite castle – Glenveagh Castle – is very well preserved and offers regular guided tours. This tour leads from the hiking car park on the R254 through the Gleanveagh Valley, meaning "Valley of Life," to Lough Beagh. The route continues along the wooded shore of the lake to the castle and then returns the same way. The picturesque valley is covered with peat mosses and heather and includes several waterfalls, providing some variety from the long, rather monotonous trail. A beautiful, easy hike in Ireland's largest national park.
