Black Hill 602m (SiMM) and Sorrel Hill 599m (Marilyn) On many of the peak bagging and outdoor websites I perused for this trip, I noted there were very few route descriptions regarding ascents of the lesser-known Irish Marilyns. This also applied to the availability of GPX files. I will therefore add relevant information and files that will hopefully provide assistance to future hikers and backpackers. Both of these hikes can be completed from a sizeable car park at Ballynultagh Gap, some 3 kilometres from Lackan. Both of these trails are popular for hiking, running, and walking. Both of them have distinct footpaths but are still wet and muddy in places. A separate GPS trail is available for each hill. Black Hill 602 m (south). From the car park, a nice rocky path takes you directly but gently up this beautiful rising hill with commanding views of Pollaphuca Reservoir on the right and the nearby hills of Moanbane and Mullaghcleevaun directly in front. The rocky path transforms into the typical Irish peaty boggy path for the final section before the small cairned summit. The views are great. Statistics: 4 kilometres with 165 metres of height gain done in 50 minutes. Sorrel Hill 599 m (north). Crossing the road from the car park, there is a steep bank to negotiate before a wet but not to boggy path takes you again gently but directly up to the large cairned summit of Sorrel Hill. Again, the views are beautiful, and it is a thoroughly enjoyable hike. Statistics: 2.5 kilometres with 160 metres of height gain done in 37 minutes.
