Hiking
Not only will you climb the highest point in North Holland today, but also the highest dune in the Netherlands! The Catrijper Nok, which is very appropriately located in the municipality of Bergen, has a height of 55.4 meters. It promises to be a varied trip through the dunes of Schoorl. Of course, after all those kilometers of climbing and scrambling, you will come home tonight with muscular calves.
There is no quiet income today, because you immediately start climbing a staircase that seems endlessly long. But then you have something; once at the top you are in the area with the highest dunes in the Netherlands, which creates a unique landscape. Can you already smell the Catrijper Nok? You don't see it here yet, but it is nearby.
After another kilometer of walking you will reach the highest dune in the Netherlands. As is often the case with mountain peaks in our country, you do not immediately realize that you are on a peak. Fortunately, there is a pole between the trees that lets you know that this is really the Catrijper Nok and that your climb has not been in vain. You have an even better view a little further on, where you have a beautiful panorama from the watchtower. The tower may be closed. Don't worry: there's still plenty of beauty waiting for you.
You continue the route through a beautiful piece of forest, where you can completely relax. You walk to a bench at the bird lake. Enjoy a picnic here or grab your binoculars and spot special birds.
After that you can enjoy the Schoorl dunes and forests for miles and a last fantastic view awaits you just before the end. Here you can clearly see how extensive the area is that you walked through today.
At the starting point of the walk and in the village of Schoorl are several catering establishments. For the road you take enough food and drinks with you in your backpack.
There is a parking lot at the start and end of the circular walk. If you come by public transport, get off at the Sanderije bus stop in Schoorl.
