Bread and Moor Bakery

Highlight • Cafe

A lovely bakery and cafe in Yelverton, this makes for an ideal cake and coffee stop if you’re passing by on the Drake’s Trail/Dartmoor Way. The bakery is particularly well known for its cinnamon buns but sells a wide variety of fantastic cakes and bread.

Small, this cafe can get busy in summer months although there is outside seating too.

The Royal Oak Inn, Dartmoor

Highlight • Historical Site

The Royal Oak is a traditional village pub in the picturesque surroundings of Dartmoor National Park. The pub, which is Grade II-listed, is a former 15th-century church house inn and takes its name from the 800-year-old oak tree on the village green. Burrator Reservoir and Dam

Highlight • Lake

Burrator Reservoir is situated within Dartmoor, and the tranquil water and surrounding mixed woodland contrasts sharply with the open moor and the rugged Dartmoor tors. A trip here can be combined with a walk across the moors, or enjoyed as a trip of its own with plenty to do – from walking and taking in the views, to fishing for rainbow and brown trout (just be sure to get a permit, available online or by calling South West Lakes). Devon has relatively few lakes, but the situation and quality of these make them a hidden gem in Devon’s crown.

This is a tranquil little place, excellent for a walk, run or cycle. Beautiful scenery with lots of viewing points.

A road runs round the reservoir, so if you are walking, be aware of traffic.
