Right on the border of the Guilleries and La Selva counties is the Volcà de la Crosa Protected Natural Area. Its low-relief crater goes unnoticed as it is now dedicated to crops. With 1,250 meters in diameter, it is the largest in the Iberian Peninsula, and one of the largest in Europe. In this accessible walk I suggest you visit the natural spaces around it and enjoy its landscapes.
You start the journey in the small town of Sant Dalmai, where a short distance from leaving the starting point, you will find the Tosqueres area, old volcanic stone quarries that were used in construction. You will immediately reach the perimeter of the volcano, also known as the Crosa de Sant Dalmai, which you follow in a northerly direction. After passing by the hermitage of Sant Llop and crossing the road, you arrive at Las Guilloteres, an old exploitation of volcanic clay, now converted into an interpretation center for the volcano.
The Route now heads south, in search of the Onyar River, whose course will accompany you until the end of the walk. After passing through the Can Bosch spring and following a beautiful path through the woods, you arrive at the Can Borra lock, fed by the Onyar river and used to irrigate the fields in the area. From here, you continue along a quiet path next to the river, which returns you to the starting point, in Sant Dalmai.
