Ashbourne Tunnel

There are a few of the old train tunnels local to here, its at the very start of the Tissington Trail, you can see the end for those of you that suffer any form of phobia with this type of thing.

View of Mapleton from the River Dove

Mapleton is a pretty Derbyshire village just south of the Peak District National Park. It's close to the River Dove and makes a nice loop from Ashbourne if you walk out along the Tissington Trail, through Dovedale and back past Mapleton over the fields.

Old mile post near Coldwall Bridge south of Thorpe. It marks eleven miles to Cheadle which is west of here in Staffordshire.

Dovedale's stepping stones

Highlight • River

The Stepping Stones make for a quirky crossing of the River Dove. In the middle of the stones, be sure to look around and admire the stunning scenery. The stones were placed in the middle of the 19th century and were an instant hit with visitors. There are lots of fossils in the stones, too.

This is a great walk, especially for the 4pawed amis, about half the walk was off lead, by a river in the first section, then off lead for at least the last 2 miles along the disused rail track, Coops loved this walk!

Good loop from Ashbourne.
But why do dog owners, despite signs EVERYWHERE, still have their dogs off lead???
