A wildly romantic gorge, a picturesque lake, and a magnificent view of Lake Wörthersee. The Slow Trail - Römerweg near Velden combines all of this in a wonderful circular hike – hiking at its finest!
If you're traveling by car, you can park directly at the Franzosenkirche (French Church). Otherwise, you can reach the starting point with a short walk from Velden train station or the Velden ferry landing.
Shortly after starting, you'll be immersed in the enchanting Römerschlucht (Roman Gorge). The stream babbles beside you, while the green canopy of leaves rustles softly in the breeze above. Passing the Roman bridge, the path leads you up to the idyllic Forstsee (Forest Lake).
You'll almost completely circumnavigate the lake. Along the way, various bays and small beaches offer opportunities for a leisurely break. Perhaps you'll even dare to take a dip in the cool water?
The final highlights are the stunning views of Lake Wörthersee and the mountains at the Hohes Kreuz (High Cross). Two wooden benches invite you to linger and enjoy the view before you hike back to the starting point through the Roman Gorge.
