Hiking

Today you walk a varied clog path that shows you the most beautiful and special places around Wageningen in about 13 kilometers. The start and end point is Fletcher Hotel de Wageningsche Berg.

Are you curious about today's route exactly? Then climb up to your first, literal, Highlight, so you can see it with your own eyes. From this vantage point you have a beautiful view over the Rhine valley. There is a bench from where you can enjoy this view. But don't sit still too long, because you still have a lot of kilometers ahead of you. And you don't want to miss it.

Get on your feet quickly to visit the colorful Belmonte Arboretum, where you will marvel at a unique flora and fauna.

It doesn't stop with the colorful plants and flowers, because a little later you pass picking garden de Bosrand. Before you leave, check whether the garden is open. If so, then you can settle down here with the goods you brought with you, or you can order something small in the tea garden.

If you have absorbed all the scents and colors, you can go another 5 kilometers. If you need a break again afterwards, that's not a problem. There is a cozy bench waiting for you from where you have an idyllic view over the vast landscapes.

About 3.5 kilometers before the end point you walk through Wijngaard Wagenings Wijngoed. You can visit the vineyard, but it is wise to plan in advance. Enjoy a well-deserved glass of wine, but take into account the last few kilometers you still have to walk… Maybe they will be extra fun!

Those who still have the strength, climb up the Wageningse Berg just before the finish, towards a burial mound. This dates from no less than 2500-2000 BC. The hills would be used by the so-called Bell Beaker people. Members of the people were buried with their faces to the east and their heads to the south.

When you have sufficiently marveled at the Bell Beaker People, you make the last meters to the end point. Here you can settle down on one of the terraces for a well-deserved snack and drink.

Along the way you will come across several catering establishments for a break. Check in advance whether they are open during your trip. If not, there are more than enough beautiful picnic spots along the way.

Those who come by car park at Fletcher Hotel de Wageningsche Berg and those who take the bus get off at the stop of the same name.

Belmonte Arboretum

Highlight • Natural

This garden has a long history and is now a wonderful place to stroll around. Enjoy a unique flora and fauna here and learn all about the history of the Belmonte. In Roman times, the northern border of the empire, the limes, also ran here. With a little attention to all Latin names of the flowers and plants, you will speak the language of the Romans before you know it.

Burial mound on the Wageningse Berg

Highlight • Historical Site

The burial mounds indicate the presence of the Bell Beaker People.
The Bell Beaker culture is an archaeological culture from the late Neolithic (ca. 2500 – 2000 BC). This culture is named after the pottery with an S-shaped outline.
The burial mounds have been explored several times over the past centuries. A number of the finds can be seen in Museum de Casteelse Poort .

Hennie had to go to Wageningen on an errand and since our bikes are still in sleep mode, we drove to Wageningen by car and first walked the clog path there. Well, it was dry at first and it went well. But at some point we decided to take a faster path back to the car. It got very wet. …

Nice walk with unfortunately a lot of paved paths but definitely worth it.

NB. The part to the Lower Rhine (and back) is not part of the official walk ;)

Walked the Wageningen Engpad together with Hennie. Through the woods, along the vegetable gardens, across the fields. A nice fresh walk with lots of sun. How lucky we are with the weather. And when you can still drink a glass of wine outside on the terrace on November 19, the day can no longer be broken 😂

Despite the gloomy weather, we still had a lovely walk. The Klompenpad (wooden clog path): Het Wageningse Engpad. We parked the car at the always beautiful Arboretum and started the walk from there. It was wonderful to walk in the woods. Later, in the countryside around Wageningen, a bit of a fresh breeze. But we can't complain, of course, because …

And another fantastically beautiful Klompenpad hike today.
The Wageningse Engpad, what a fantastic route!
We started with a cappuccino at the Fletcher Hotel De Wageningse Berg, and from there we walked through the Belmonte Arboretum, home to a vast array of trees and shrubs, and with beautiful views of the river landscape.
The route also passed through a beautiful allotment …

Based on Komoot Route - Surprisingly walking around Wageningen. However, the GPS handheld decided to adjust halfway through the course (sometimes I still don't understand my handheld after years).
