The ways to climb to the top of Monte Guglielmo are many and all satisfying, both for the variety of environmental contexts crossed and for the panoramas that open up before the eyes.
From the Zone cemetery, follow the signs for the Bosco degli Gnomi, an almost fairy-tale path characterized by the presence of various wooden sculptures. The legend of this wood has it that Luigi Zatti, a local artist known as "Il Rosso", walking in the woods, personally met the gnomes who communicated to him their desire to become sentinels of the path. The sculptor listened to them and began to carve the creatures he had encountered in the trunks of the trees.
Also designed for children, this part of the path is initially simple, but gradually increases in slope. The terrain changes from cobbled to dirt and for the first part almost all in the woods, sheltered from the sun.
The driveway continues to climb between narrow bends, huts and meadows alternating with woods with wonderful views of Lake Iseo. When you reach a crossroads, take the direction towards the Baita Palmarusso di Sotto. The volunteers who manage this refreshment place love the mountains and have lived unique experiences in Peru and in the Andes, giving life to a strong twinning with Operation Mato Grosso.
The path continues uphill beyond the hut and, after the Pozza del Culmet, you can see the Almici refuge which dominates from above. The Almici refuge is located at an altitude of about 1,858 meters and is just a few minutes from the panoramic peak of Monte Guglielmo. With a little luck and if the weather conditions permit, you can admire the Apennines that emerge behind the Po Valley.
Near Christ the Redeemer you will find a manually operated counter that lets you know how many people have reached the summit before you. A nice way to keep track of how many people reach Monte Guglielmo.
Here you can find all the contacts and useful information on the refuge: https://www.rifugi.lombardia.it/brescia/zone/rifugio-almici.html
