Hiking

The ways to climb to the top of Monte Guglielmo are many and all satisfying, both for the variety of environmental contexts crossed and for the panoramas that open up before the eyes.

From the Zone cemetery, follow the signs for the Bosco degli Gnomi, an almost fairy-tale path characterized by the presence of various wooden sculptures. The legend of this wood has it that Luigi Zatti, a local artist known as "Il Rosso", walking in the woods, personally met the gnomes who communicated to him their desire to become sentinels of the path. The sculptor listened to them and began to carve the creatures he had encountered in the trunks of the trees.

Also designed for children, this part of the path is initially simple, but gradually increases in slope. The terrain changes from cobbled to dirt and for the first part almost all in the woods, sheltered from the sun.

The driveway continues to climb between narrow bends, huts and meadows alternating with woods with wonderful views of Lake Iseo. When you reach a crossroads, take the direction towards the Baita Palmarusso di Sotto. The volunteers who manage this refreshment place love the mountains and have lived unique experiences in Peru and in the Andes, giving life to a strong twinning with Operation Mato Grosso.

The path continues uphill beyond the hut and, after the Pozza del Culmet, you can see the Almici refuge which dominates from above. The Almici refuge is located at an altitude of about 1,858 meters and is just a few minutes from the panoramic peak of Monte Guglielmo. With a little luck and if the weather conditions permit, you can admire the Apennines that emerge behind the Po Valley.

Near Christ the Redeemer you will find a manually operated counter that lets you know how many people have reached the summit before you. A nice way to keep track of how many people reach Monte Guglielmo.

Here you can find all the contacts and useful information on the refuge: https://www.rifugi.lombardia.it/brescia/zone/rifugio-almici.html

Bosco degli Gnomi (Gnome Forest)

Highlight • Forest

The Bosco degli Gnomi is the most fairy-tale place on Lake Iseo, a walk from Zone to Monte Guglielmo where you come across 44 wooden sculptures. Legend has it that the local artist Luigi Zatti, known as Il Rosso, one fine day walking in the woods, met the gnomes, who expressed their desire to become sentinels along the path.

The monument stands on the summit of Monte Guglielmo, at about 1,950 meters above sea level. It is part of a series of twenty monuments dedicated "to the Redeemer", built on various Italian peaks in the early 20th century.

Almici Hut – Monte Guglielmo

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Almici refuge, located on Mount Guglielmo, is a welcoming family-run structure much appreciated by visitors. With a privileged position, it offers a spectacular 360° panorama of the Po Valley, the Alps and the picturesque Lake Iseo. During the summer, it becomes an easily accessible place and stands out for the tasting of delicious typical dishes of the Brescia tradition. However, keep in mind that its opening times may vary, so it is always advisable to check availability for a culinary break in advance. An ideal place to recharge your batteries and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.

April 14, 2023,Monte Guglielmo da Zone
I felt like walking taking advantage of the snow that fell yesterday and today's beautiful day I thought of Mount Guglielmo. Having made up my mind at the last minute, I set out from the Country of Zone. Definitely the longest and most tiring path that leads to the summit, but it offers truly unique views. Today, in particular, you …

I start from Zone, leaving the car in the convenient free parking lots on the edge of the town. Yesterday had been marked by a strong and continuous wind; today the air is more stable, although, as I approach the summit, some sudden gusts make themselves felt again and add a touch of character to the route.
The path soon …

September 26, 2023,Wanderung Monte Guglielmo
Monte Guglielmo stands out from below thanks to its large monument to the Redeemer right at the top of the plateau. At almost 2000 meters above sea level you have a wonderful view of Lake Iseo, the surrounding mountain ranges, the lower section of Lake Garda around Sirmione and - with a bit of luck - the Apennine mountains on …

If you want, close your eyes...
Imagine walking through a cool, dense, green forest of beech and fir trees. You can only hear the beating of wings of singing birds as they frantically move from tree to tree. Then silence... only your footsteps.
For a stretch of the road, you'll be surrounded by the magical creatures that inhabit the forest, …
