Yes, this loop is rated as easy and is suitable for all skill levels, including beginners and families. The terrain is generally accessible, making it a pleasant walk for most.
The loop is centered around Holymoorside village. While specific parking details aren't provided, the village is a natural starting point. It's advisable to check local parking options within Holymoorside before your visit.
You can expect a varied and picturesque landscape. The route offers superb panoramic views over Chesterfield and its distinctive Crooked Spire, especially from areas like View of Chesterfield from Billy Pig's Wood. You'll also traverse woodland and rolling farmland, follow the River Hipper, and pass by Holymoorside Dam.
Key highlights include the panoramic View of Chesterfield from Billy Pig's Wood, the tranquil Bluebells and River Hipper in Corporation Wood, the unique Stepping Stones Over the River Hipper, and the scenic Holymoorside Dam.
The terrain is generally easy, consisting of farm lanes, woodland trails, by-roads, and side lanes. While mostly accessible, some popular paths and bridleways can remain muddy throughout much of the year, so appropriate footwear is recommended.
Yes, the Holymoorside Loop is generally dog-friendly. However, as it passes through farmland and woodland, it's important to keep dogs under control, especially near livestock, and to follow any local signage regarding leashing.

Yes, this loop is a section of the larger 34-mile Chesterfield Round Walk. The route also passes through sections of Dennis's Lane, Hay Lane, and Corporation Lane.
Given the potential for muddy paths, especially after rain, waterproof hiking boots are highly recommended. Layers of clothing are always a good idea for varying weather, and consider bringing water and snacks, though facilities are available in Holymoorside village.
I usually enjoy Dennis's Lane on my MTB, but today decided to walk up it to Billy Pig's Wood to take in the scenery & savour the views over Chesterfield. You can see the Crooked Spire from here. Over Harewood Road, the walk through Corporation Wood is fabulous, crossing the brook on both stepping stones and a small bridge. Across the Farm, the public footpath runs up their driveway to the main road. Around the Stanedge Golf Course, then back down to Holymoorside through Gladwin Wood to the Old Mill Pond.
