Today I explored the city of Sens [sɑ̃s]. The city walk presented here is a little longer than the route suggested by the tourist office. Sens has about 26000 inhabitants. The city is located at the confluence of the Yonne and Vanne in Burgundy, a good 100 kilometers south-east of Paris. During the Middle Ages, Sens played an important role in church life. It has been the seat of a bishop since the late 3rd century. In 1135 the construction of the Cathedral of St. Étienne began, which is considered to be the first Gothic cathedral. The whole arrondissement "Sens" was previously an unknown spot for us Komoot hikers. Admittedly, the landscape here is flatter and not as varied as in the rest of Burgundy. But the town of Sens is really worth a detour, especially as it is conveniently located on the A19.
