Mountain biking

High-altitude mountain bike trail from Piesendorf via the Hochsonnbergalm and the Pinzgauer Hütte. Enjoy the unique view from the high trail below the Pinzgauer walk to the Pinzgauer hut: the Großglockner and the Hohe Tauern in the south are always in view.

You start in Piesendorf. You can park here or travel with the Pinzgaubahn. The first few meters lead you through the beautifully wide Salzach Valley. You slowly cycle up the serpentines of a forest path and get a great overview of the Salzach Valley. At the Hochsonnbergalm you reach the highest point of this tour. Treat yourself to a break and then a long, beautiful descent.

On the way into the valley you will pass the Pinzgauer Hütte. The little detour is worth it. From the panorama terrace you can enjoy the view of the sunny valley before you roll the last ten kilometers back to Piesendorf im Tal.

June 28, 2024,Von Piesendorf auf die Schmittn und Hochsonnbergalm
Even if the weather wasn't as nice as you would have liked it to be on this tour, it was a great ride! On beautiful forest roads we climbed about 1200 meters up to the Schmittn and then further to the Hochsonnbergalm! You have a fantastic view of all of Austria's high mountains! You should definitely do it. The ascent …

We select one of the mountain bike routes recommended on the Zell am See website. Wonderful ascent (without electricity) from Piesendorf over forest roads (up to 14% incline) to Schmittenhöhe. The traverse from there to the Hochsonnbergalm is one of the highlight of the tour: Relatively flat and continuously good vantage points into the magnificent mountain world! At the Hochsonnbergalm …

We had to tackle the third tour in the group twice. On one of the rental bikes, the crank screw has passed and with it the crank. It was good that we were still in the approach and could turn back so easily. But the day was over and so we had to postpone the tour. The weather seemed much …

For the first time at the PHS hut. It was freezing, would have needed my gloves but left them at home.

I started under overcast skies and at 1700m it suddenly started to rain and there were still bits of snow. A young couple helped me push the bike over a pile of snow at one point
