The road that leads to Monte Grappa from Fietta is an ancient mule track converted into a driveway during the Great War. Currently the road is paved, but the roadway is very narrow and has many points of poor visibility.
This climb is known by cyclists with the name of "salto della capra" because at the hardest point it is possible to see a small wrought iron monument depicting a goat.
The climb winds its way over thirty hairpin bends, all challenging, but it is from the tenth onwards that the so-called "Mortirolo del Veneto" begins, a series of hairpin bends with thrilling peaks between 17% and 20%.
The level of training required to tackle this climb is high, therefore I recommend the ascent only to those with consolidated cycling experience.
There are practically no refreshment points starting from the beginning of the hairpin bends.
