Hiking

From the little church of San Giuseppe, take the road that climbs the left orographic side of the Val Grande. The natural context is immediately welcoming, thanks to its huge meadows, frequented by deer, and a bright larch forest.

After passing the Gussanino and Gussano farmhouse, cross the Acqua Calda bridge and pass on the right side of the valley (at this point you can also arrive in a similar journey time starting from the hamlet of Grano). The itinerary enters the Stelvio National Park and continues with small stretches on the side of the stream.

The journey proceeds giving continuous pretexts to stop and observe the pastures, wooden crucifixes, huts, larch and spruce woods, birch and alder trees. Some huts still retain the constructive features of traditional architecture.

After passing the small church of Carét, the route reaches the nucleus of buildings of the Malga Val Grande. From here on, the mule track winds its way through rhododendron bushes that blossom in the flowering period, filling the valley with colour. Some channels descend from the slopes crossed by avalanches which can keep the snow accumulations until spring.

The shrill whistles of the marmots accompany you on the last stretch of the climb which, between pastures and boulders, leads to the Saverio Occhi bivouac in Plas de l'Asen. Here the gaze towards the head of the valley offers a fabulous view of the peaks of Pietra Rossa.

The bivouac is always open but for overnight stays it is better to inform the Pro Loco of Vezza d'Oglio in advance. Here you can find all the contacts and useful information: https://www.vezzadoglioturismo.it/

Classification of a trip to Valcamonica to be done between the end of September and the beginning of October, to enjoy the concert of the baramiti dei deer in love. On the slopes of the valley floor, the majestic male deer are clearly visible with their harem of females in tow. Obviously, it is better to linger towards the evening …

Gorgeous sunny day. Beautiful hike in Val Grande and finally the roar. I hiked around the refuge while Virgi went down to the mountain hut, so she could wait for me and finally see the deer through binoculars. Everything was beautiful...
