Hiking

The path that connects the Laeng refuge to the San Fermo refuge passes at the foot of Pizzo Camino and Cima Moren, and passes next to the ruins of the Coppellotti refuge. This area constitutes an unexpected little realm of ridges, ridges and gullies with dolomitic suggestions.

It starts from the town of Borno, passing through the beautiful Lake Lova until you reach the Laeng refuge, located in the splendid and wild Conca di Varicla, from where you can also observe the remains of the former Coppellotti refuge. Following a path along the hillside you reach the San Fermo refuge, to then close the route along a suggestive path through the coniferous woods.

The Laeng refuge is located at 1,760 meters and is framed by the limestone rock faces of the Pizzo Camino group and Cima Moren. This refuge is dedicated to Gualtiero Laeng, a historical scholar of Camunian rock engravings and the one who enhanced the Adamello paths.

Inserted in a wild environment reachable only on foot, the Laeng Refuge offers an incomparable landscape and a sense of serenity and peace. The size and uniqueness of this refuge offer almost family hospitality with traditional dishes cooked with care and passion.

The San Fermo Hut, on the other hand, is located at 1,868 meters at the base of the Corna di San Fermo. Next to the refuge there is a small church dating back to the seventeenth century dedicated to the hermit saint. From this refuge you can enjoy an exceptional panorama that ranges from the Val di Scalve to the Concarena up to the highest mountains of the Valle Camonica.

Malga Mignone is closed in winter, but in summer it represents a nice refreshment point. Near the pass there are some benches and a table with a view of Pizzo Camino and the mountains around the plain.

November 1, 2024,Passo Varicla, giro ad anello da Borno.
Daily excursion starting from Borno at 8 on a cool and clear day. Passage through the western shore of the suggestive Lago di Lova and climb to Malga Mignone from which you can admire Punta est Punta Anita, Cima Crap, Vai Piane and Cima Azendola to the north. To the west the objective of the day, Passo Varicla, a narrow …

Very challenging climb up to Malga Zumella, then there are no more signs, you have to go up a meadow

Starting from Borno, a small town in the Val Camonica at about 900m, our round trip went steeply uphill today with the destination 'Rifugio San Fermo'. Asphalt became gravel became a forest path became an alpine meadow. There were at least two animal encounters (without jingling) before the longed-for Italian hut fare.
The highlight I had hoped for came as …
