Lisakkipää Trail – Urho Kekkonen National Park

There are two variants of the Lisakkipää circular hike. We planned this tour over the longer, seven-kilometer route. You can also shorten the path in between, so that you only hike three kilometers. But then you will miss the rewarding climb to the summit.

You start from the parking lot in Saariselkä and cross the Luttojoki river via a suspension bridge. The narrow path leads through a light mixed forest up to the summit of Lisakkipää at 454 meters above sea level. From here you have a wonderful view over the vastness of Finland. You might be lucky and even see reindeer. The descent takes you past the Pääsiäiskuru Gorge. In the stony and shady gully there is still snow even in summer. You hike along above the gorge and can see how the plateau is cut through at this point. With a slight incline you hike towards the forest and back to the starting point in Saariselkä.

On the plateau above the trees, it can get windy and cold even in summer. Bring a jacket and hat with you to be on the safe side. You should also pack enough provisions, because there is neither food nor drink on the way.
