Hiking

The Mittagskogel is the perfect vantage point. From the summit, your view stretches over the Faaker to Villach, with Lake Wörthersee glistening in the sun next to it. Countless peaks complete the grandiose panorama. But you have to earn this view first. The demanding path requires sure-footedness and a good level of fitness.

It starts at the Bertahütte car park, but note that you can only reach it with a car with sufficient ground clearance via a forest road. You hike steeply uphill to the cozy Bertahütte and through sparse mountain forest to the east flank of the Mittagskogel. The path zigzags up to the saddle between your destination and the Hühnerkogel.

From the saddle it is still around 100 meters in altitude to the promising summit. Once at the top, you can enjoy the wonderful panorama and let your eyes wander. The way back is the same way. If you feel hungry, you can stop at the rustic Bertahütte.

After we never made it on previous (short) vacations, it finally worked out this year. A very adventurous journey to the hiking car park - at least with our car (sports chassis). One or the other time I had to look carefully how I approach the gullies and hills. The first ascent to the Bertahütte is steep (very rooty) - …

From the parking lot, the path to the Mittagskogel first leads through the forest to the Bertahütte - you should definitely stop there on the way back;)
From there, follow the well-signposted path towards the Mittagskogel. After walking again briefly through the forest, the path turns into rocky terrain. I would definitely recommend good footwear. From now on the path …

We were able to drive up an adventurous gravel road to the top official parking lot. The road looks pretty wild at times... that's why we didn't drive up in the Porsche 😆

The Mittagskogel has been on our hiking list for a long time. Even if the conditions weren't ideal, lots of clouds ☁ and therefore little visibility, at least it was dry. Whether late autumn will bring great hiking days is rather uncertain and before the Mittagskogel is and remains snow-covered, it was his turn.
The journey to the hiking car …

We chose the easiest option, i.e. driving to the barrier by car. That alone is a little adventure and you can hardly believe that you are still on the right track. Make sure to ask about the "road" conditions, in our case the path had probably just been repaired, but it was still a really bumpy track 😀.
We went …

This tour over the Northeast Degree is only suitable for experienced mountaineers with climbing or via ferrata experience!!! There are no fuses or tethers. A head for heights and sure-footedness is important! Helmet recommended. On the rocks the path is well marked with red dots, otherwise no markings.
Beautiful route with great views :)

Even the drive to the parking lot below the Bertahütte was a small challenge. It's good if the car has four-wheel drive and can handle unpaved roads well.

The hike, as described above, initially led through a shady forest, about 45 minutes to the Bertahütte. From there, the trail to the summit of the
