Our Lady of the Assumption

Highlight • Religious Site

The Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, located in the Plaza de la Constitución, forms an architectural complex of great beauty with the arcades that surround it and the Town Hall of the town.
Dates from the 16th century. It has a beautiful Plateresque doorway with a tympanum and fan-shaped trumpets. The reliefs of the Assumption, the figure of God the Father and the musical angels stand out.
The interior is simple and austere with a single nave with an octagonal apse and a tower at its feet. It has a Latin cross floor plan of 1,200 m2 and is framed by five side chapels.
Currently in rehab.

Castillo de Manzanares

Highlight • Castle

The Castle of Manzanares (Castillo de Pilas Bonas) is included in the Inventory of Architectural Heritage of Historic-Artistic Interest carried out by the Ministry of Culture in 1979. Although there are still many dark spots regarding the origin of the Castle and the population of Manzanares, various historians agree that the Castle must have been built around the year 1239, after the demarcation of the territories of the orders of Santiago and Calatrava.
The reasons for its construction would probably be the proximity to the Azuer River, the existence of wells with plenty of water or the intersection of roads and paths.

Motilla del Azuer

Highlight • Historical Site

Daimiel offers us spectacular surroundings, and the Motilla site does not escape this spell. Over four thousand years ago, its inhabitants built several concentric lines of walls over a deep well and a vigorous square tower.

The Bronze Age emerges in La Mancha lands where water is of great importance due to its scarcity and this dates back to ancient times, so inside the patio the inhabitants of Azuer dug a well until reaching the water table, at a depth of about 16 meters, to supply water to the settlement. Its functionality experienced variations during the different phases of occupation, being also used as an occasional stabling area for sheep, goats and pigs, but mainly as a cereal store (barley and wheat). The grave goods are scarce, except in exceptional cases of adult individuals buried with ceramic vases, daggers with copper rivets and awls of this same metal, which could indicate a hierarchical society. This profound journey to the second millennium BC is not only well preserved but also magical and unique.
