Hiking

Near the ancient-looking village of Nonceveux, the Amel River has washed deep into the rock and drawn a narrow valley. Rushing torrents like the Ninglinspo and Chefna are waiting to be discovered by you.

The magic of the wild Ninglinspo catches you on your first steps. The path winds again and again to follow the rushing torrent. Small waterfalls and numerous wooden bridges make the fairytale atmosphere perfect. The narrow path now rises slowly and takes you to mystical pools.

After you have passed the remote village of Villeau-Bois, you now take a long descent along the Chefna stream through thick forests. A cozy picnic hut with a fireplace, benches and tables invites you to take a long break. On your way through the town of Quarreux you can marvel at the studio house of the artist Guy de Philippart de Foy. The hobbits from “Lord of the Rings” could also be at home here.

Shortly before your starting point, you follow a rustic forest path and the banks of the Amel with their magnificent quartz rocks that line the shore.

Prospector's Cabin

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Beautiful newer wooden shelter built on the site of an old cottage. There is 1 table, benches and a nice fireplace where you can grill. There is also an outdoor grill. The name of this hut refers to the search for gold nuggets practiced in this small valley in pre-Roman times and then from the 19th to the early 20th centuries.

Hobbit House of Guy Philippart

Highlight • Structure

Here, in this small Ardennes village of Quarreux, there is an extraordinary and worth seeing "hobbit" house, the Maison Philippart. A great photo highlight and a beautiful example of architectural creativity.

A rustic hiking trail leads here on the banks of the rushing Amblève - in German simply Amel - along. If you like, you can scramble on the big boulders to take a very nice photo of the middle of the river. Of course you can just sit on it and let your feet dangle into the water.

August 6, 2023,Wilde Bäche in Sedoz: Ninglinspo und Chefna – Belgische Ardennen
Today in unfortunately constant rain 🌧️🌧️🌧️ again in Belgium and ran the route in Sedoz. But even in this weather a good route that not only impresses with the streams. Beautiful sections along the streams, as well as through forest and meadows. 🙂

A day on Belgium's most famous torrent - and it got SO crowded.
The parking lot at the restaurant/bus stop was already full at 9:45, so the start was 600m away.

"Balade du Ninglispo"
Early start = peace and quiet at the Ninglinspo!!
The stream is beautiful!! Lots of bridges, small water slides & waterfalls; shady forest path

This hike with the group "Gnadenlos" - hiking in the Euregio was quite adventurous. The prerequisite was sure-footedness, suitable footwear, a head for heights and courageous 🙂. Rimo, our hiking guide accompanies us, we are 13 on this beautiful tour. We start from the Ninglingspo parking lot. It's gray on gray and drizzles a bit. Brave as we are, we …

A highlight in our Komoot life and an absolute 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 hike. At the highest point at 470 meters we had to process the first section first 🤩 Sturdy, waterproof and ankle-high hiking boots 🥾🥾 and hiking poles were very, very helpful. Then it went slowly downhill into the valley of the Chefna. Here, too, smaller waterfalls, whirlpools and large boulders …

I chose this hike based on a suggestion from VISITWallonia. So, we set off on this wonderful route in perfect hiking weather. The first section took us through the Ninglinspo Valley, with passages that seemed almost alpine. Ropes were available for assistance on these extreme sections, and they were put to good use. After a short stretch across a plateau, …

With some exaggeration you can call this walk a three rivers/streams tour. We started at the parking lot (Parking de Sedoz in Aywaille) and followed the Ninglinspo upstream. For this we used the signposts from walk 21 (blue rectangle). Where walk 21 deviates, we continued to follow the Ninglinspo upstream. We followed the signs with the connection to walk 22 …

Superb ride
Chefna: beautiful, calm (we didn't meet anyone!).
Ninglinspo: more beautiful but very popular (even on this gloomy Sunday in mid-September).
Between the 2: the river of white stones: a little Ninglinspo 😉

Some difficult passages (white stones and Ninglinspo), especially if there was a lot of water.

And to end calmly, the funds of Quarreux.

The runoff, the flow and even the bubbling of the waters of the Amblève, Ninglinspo and Chefna will accompany you for a good part of the route. This hike is not the most peaceful, both physically and technically. It is even made dangerous in some places by the amount of leaves that cover rocky ground that becomes slippery in the …
