Hiking
Like no other low mountain range, the Ardennes stand for the longing for untouched nature. Graceful rivers such as the Amel or the Salm make their way through wooded valleys, past mighty rocks and on the slopes above the valleys you can enjoy fantastic views. The Ardennes are only sparsely populated and still extremely original. On this hike you will explore the area around Trois-Ponts, where the Salm flows into the Amel and wide forests stretch across the hills.
You can easily reach Trois-Ponts by train, for example. The starting point of this tour is not far from the train station. Here it is already uphill. Take some provisions with you, because you won't find any places to stop for refreshments along the 23 kilometers of the route. Pure nature awaits you. After just a few meters you can enjoy great views of the village and the Salm valley. You discover the tower of Leroux and stride across fields with a wide view. The forest surrounds you again and again.
Around the village of Wanne you walk on natural paths and forest paths. You will soon reach the Faix du Diable, a bizarre rock formation made of quartz stone. The atmosphere up here is not only mystical on foggy days. As you continue, you will discover a memorial to the fallen of the war and be reminded that decisive battles were fought in the Ardennes during World War II. Back in Trois-Ponts you can end the day in the local brasserie, for example with a Belgian beer in style.
