An oasis of peace in Kijfhoek and Bierlap

For those looking for peace, Kijfhoek and Bierlap in South Holland is a paradise. The 10-kilometre route runs right through the unique Meijendel dune area. Nature here gives space to all kinds of plants and animals and has beautiful views, forests and high dunes in store for hikers. Maybe you will come across a herd of Konik horses or deer today!

Important information before you start the walk: to have access to Kijfhoek and Bierlap you need a day ticket. Purchasing the map is definitely worth it, because this is precisely why this area remains so quiet and peaceful. You can get the day ticket at the information center at the start of the route and it costs €2.00.

You will not only find a lot of peace and quiet in this unique nature reserve, but also various highlights. Enjoy, among other things, an impressive dune landscape. At a number of places on the route, you will come across idyllic dune lakes between the dunes. Here you will see large groups of birds floating when you walk slowly. Do you want to observe birds quietly? Then walk about another kilometer to the birdwatching hut.

Right at the start of the route is Meijendel farm, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee before you start the walk. You're going on a circular walk today, so you can also have a well-deserved drink here after your trip. Or you can end the day with a delicious pancake in the pancake house next door. Take some food and drinks with you in your backpack along the way.

The starting point of the route is at the Tapuit, Dunea visitor center. You can reach this point by public transport from the De Kieviet bus stop in Wassenaar. From here it is about a fourteen minute walk to the start of the route. Are you coming by car? You can park it at P1 parking lot Meijendel (Kievietsduin). This is on the route, so you can choose to start the walk here. Prefer to start at the information center? Then follow the white posts for 1.5 kilometers from the parking lot to De Tapuit. If you do start from P1, make sure you have already purchased the day ticket online.
