The Monte Santu Loop is generally completed in about 1 hour and 52 minutes. This estimate is for the 5.7 km route with approximately 175 meters of elevation gain.
Komoot rates this hike as moderate. While some sources describe it as easy and family-friendly, others suggest it requires sure-footedness, especially on the steeper, rocky sections near the summit. It's suitable for most fitness levels.
The trail offers varied terrain. You'll likely start on a paved road through a village before transitioning to a well-marked path. It then leads through a shaded holm oak forest, followed by dense maquis shrubland. The final 30 minutes to the summit involve a steeper climb over rocky ground, but it's generally not technically difficult. Some sections may be unpaved and natural.
Absolutely! The main highlight is the Monte Santu Summit View, which offers a spectacular 360-degree panorama. From here, you can see the jagged peaks of the Aiguilles de Bavella to the west and the eastern plain stretching to the Mediterranean Sea.
The starting point for some routes of the Monte Santu Loop is conveniently located next to a parking lot. Specific parking details would depend on your exact starting point near Sari-Solenzara, Corsica.
Yes, the Monte Santu Loop is often highlighted as suitable for families. Its moderate length and mostly shaded sections make it a good option, though the final rocky ascent to the summit requires some care.
Information regarding dog-friendliness for this specific trail is not explicitly stated in the provided research. It's always best to check local regulations or signage at the trailhead regarding dogs, especially leash requirements.
The trail's mostly shaded nature, particularly through the forest, makes it an ideal option for warmer days. Spring and autumn generally offer pleasant temperatures for hiking in Corsica, avoiding the peak heat of summer while still enjoying good weather.
There is no information indicating that permits or entrance fees are required to hike the Monte Santu Loop. Access is generally free.
Yes, the Monte Santu Loop intersects with several other paths. The route covers 100% of the "Boucle du Monte Santu" and also passes through sections of the "Petite boucle du Monastère", "Grande boucle Funtana di Vignali", "Petite boucle Funtana di Vignali", and various segments of the "Strada di u Monastere".
The Monte Santu Loop is located near Sari-Solenzara in Corsica. This area offers nearby amenities such as cafes, pubs, and accommodation options, particularly in the village where the trail might begin.
A very nice little hike from Sari. Also ideal with a four-legged companion. It goes up through a dense forest. Once at the top you have a wonderful view. From the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Mavella massif. It goes downhill through pine trees. Shortly before Sari you walk through a cozy forest path, where only the elves are missing. From Sari a beautiful view to the north of the sea.
A really beautiful, varied tour with a mini via ferrata section if you want to go all the way up the mountain!
Superb, we cross the forest for a large part of the route so it is shaded. Sea view on one side and scrubland, Bavella needles on the other. We finish in apotheosis with the view of the eastern coast from the port of Solenzara. Provide hiking shoes because intermediate level. Thank you komoot for the discovery of this route
We started the tour at the church in Sari. At first it went steadily upwards. At some point after 1.84 km you come to a fork where you go directly to Monte Santo on the right and pass below the summit on the left. This is the simpler version. If you go directly to Monte Santo, you have to climb back down to the hiking trail via via ferrata. Not recommended with children and without good equipment. We turned around with a child and then hiked the easier option. The descent is steep and a bit slippery on lots of dust and stones. I wouldn't recommend it in wet weather. The route overall was beautiful with good views of the mountains and sea.
A short but beautiful circular hike with views of the Bavella Mountains. A short section of the trail from Monte Santu via an iron ladder is easily doable for experienced hikers. Not feasible with a dog, so we chose the longer return route to Sari-Solenzara.
The walk is nice but not sensational. Beautiful views in a number of places. For the climb and descent of Monte Santu, good sturdy shoes with sufficient grip/profile are required. In warm weather, take enough water with you. We used the parking lot before the village in the last sharp bend, there is much more space there than elsewhere.
A very nice tour, my advice, follow this tour in the same direction as us because going down the steep drop can be a pain in the knees, good shoes are necessary.
