Riisin Rietas Trail – Riisitunturi National Park

The Riisin Rietas Trail shows you the picturesque landscape of the Riisitunturi National Park over eleven wonderfully varied kilometers. You explore the sprawling fells dotted with low conifers, shimmering lakes and small cottages. You'll also walk a tiny part of the E10 long-distance hiking trail, which starts in Finland's northernmost village and ends in Spain.

At the parking lot right on the border of the national park you start with a climb to the top of the Riisintunturi. Your effort will be rewarded with a breathtaking view across to a large, luminous lake: Yli-Kitka is, after all, Europe's largest spring! The round tour takes you to a typical shelter with a fireplace at the idyllic Uusilampi. A lovely spot for a leisurely picnic. If that's still too early for you, you continue to the next rustic wooden hut, which scores with a great view over the swampy grassland.

After about seven and a half kilometers you will find yourself on the E10 and follow it south. Look out for the hawk owl in the trees, which is the inspiration for the national park's logo. Two kilometers before your starting point you can end the hike at another wooden hut. There is even a barbecue area here. So having some grilled food in your backpack for a tasty meal is a good idea!
