This route is not long at 46 kilometers, but because of the hike-a-bike section of about 7 kilometers you can easily spend the whole day here. The village of Vallouise is located in the valley of the same name in the heart of the Ecrins National Park and is surrounded by peaks of up to 4000 meters. During this technical route you will get to know the surrounding mountain landscape of one of France's most beautiful natural parks.
From Vallouise you climb on asphalt to the Chambran valley. This valley is located in a mountain basin and is almost completely surrounded by steep slopes. At the mountain hut on the right you can order something or refill water at the source, after which you continue your journey on a gravel path further into the valley. You turn right, lift your bike and start the ascent towards the Col de l'Eychauda. Before you reach the col, turn right and keep walking until the terrain levels out and you can cycle on the singletrack again, although you have to get off again at some sections. Crossing the Col de la Pisse, you will pass a scree slope of the L'Eychauda (2659m) on the left and on the right you will see the peaks of the Cime de Condamine (2940m) and Rocher Bouchard (2900m).
As soon as you descend, the pace picks up and you soon reach the tree line. After a short gravel section, you cross a stream and follow another single track without losing much altitude. You look out over the Pic de Montbrison, an imposing mountain peak of 2810 meters, after which you pick up a gravel path again. You cross the Pas du Loup and descend a few kilometers on gravel paths to the village of Les Vigneaux.
Just before you cross the river La Gyronde, you can go to bakery Le Fournil for extra supplies. After this you gradually follow the river up and down back to the village of Vallouise.
