Hünenburg Earthwork

Highlight • Historical Site

The Hünenburg is a registered ground monument and was probably a late medieval barrier to control the Hainich. The ramparts running from north to south can still be seen. The name was probably coined in modern times. Source: information board

The Saugraben circular trail in Hainich is beautiful and varied. Thanks to @fadenkäfer for the suggestion!
Right now it's the best time, because the wild garlic is in full bloom and it smells everywhere.

Another Wednesday hike to the Hainich because of the cool weather. The starting point was the car park at the fox farm near Mülverstedt. The name of the path was really "Germanic cult path" - not an invention of ours.

Went to the Hainich with the family today. The route was to hike along the "Saugrabenweg". In quite muddy conditions we went sliding through the forest and towards the end through a "bush landscape". The weather was also good - only one or two sleet showers had to be endured.

Eight pre-Christian sanctuaries are presented on the Germanic Cult Trail, but these are not reconstructions on authentic sites.

Rather, it is illustrated that the primeval forest was also part of the Germanic world - a world that the sacrificial moor museum near Niederdorla …

My dear friend Anja is visiting for a few days and we set out on the Saugrabenweg in Hainich in the best weather.
We almost had the hiking trails to ourselves. We saw a single family.
We saw cowslips, hollow larkspur, wood anemones, daphne, fragrant violets, wild garlic and much more in abundance. Splendid.
On the way back we went …

📍Starting point: Zollgarten Kammerforst car park.
It still smells of wild garlic and it hasn't completely faded yet.

The Saugrabenweg leads through a very beautiful part of the Hainich National Park. Just look at the many pictures and maybe you would like to visit the Hainich. After the hike on the Saugrabenweg you should definitely stop off at the country inn "Zum Braunen Hirsch". Great food, great drinks (delicious house schnapps) and great service. The snack hut at …
