Wintour's Leap is a noted rock climbing location and viewpoint. It is located near the village of Woodcroft in Gloucestershire, on the English side of the Wye Valley, north of Chepstow.
Wintour's Leap is named after Royalist Sir John Wintour who, hotly pursued on his horse by Parliamentary forces, according to local myth survived a leap off the cliff and, landing safely in the Wye below, swam to safety in the nearby Chepstow Castle. In fact, Wintour did escape from the Roundheads by using the river nearby on two separate occasions, but from less spectacular positions at Lancaut and Sedbury.

This road is closed until Q4 2022 whilst the Environment Agency build new flood defences. Their unimaginative design and lack of empahty means they have cut down 500+ protected trees, grubbed up 4km of medieval hedgerow, are now importing 40,000 truckloads of soil from who knows where, displacing thousands of migrant and native birds and making the whole area sterile as a result. Gone are our owls, kingfishers, sloworms and otters. Thanks EA...

Short but steep little climb, about 600 m long, in the otherwise flat South Glocs countryside. Begins just past Shaun the Sheep (see other highlight!) and gets suddenly steeper up to 19% before flattening out after the left-hand bend. A rather sketchy surface, if taken as a descent.
