Viera y Clavijo Canary Botanical Garden

Highlight • Natural

The parking area suggested at A is limited and is at the top part of the garden where the restaurant is. (recommended)
If you are coming by car I suggest you use the main large car park located on Carretera del Dragonsl also free and much bigger. Some of the paths have been a bit weather damaged. Most of the garden is trees and bushes. The cactus garden is the most interesting.

Sventenius Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

The waterfall was named after the founder of the park Ericus Ragnar Sventenius (Latinized form of Erik Ragnar Svensson)!
He was a Swedish-Spanish botanist.
He is the founder of the botanical garden Jardín Botánico Canario Viera y Clavijo on Gran Canaria.

100% worth it. Entry is free and you get that much is crazy!

Canary Botanical Garden

Highlight • Natural Monument

The main entrance is at the top of the mountain (parking lot), but there is another downstairs. The actual garden is below. Whoever comes from above should not waste too much time on the descent (there are many detours). So down as directly as possible. There is no catering downstairs, you can not even drink a coffee. That's a pity, because the area is nice and big, and you can spend a lot of time there. But the Centro de Expositiones had closed when I was there. Maybe there's something else ... (?)

This photogenic species of cactus, whose scientific name is Echinocactus grusonii, is one of the most striking in the Jardín Canario collection.

Another of the different spaces that can be found in the Jardín Canario, where you can feel like you are in a lot of different places in a small space.

Today's contrast program: in the wetter northern part of Gran Canaria, we visited an oasis with lush vegetation. Wonderful shade under palm trees, few visitors, also an oasis of calm.

Beautiful botanical garden, the largest in the Canary Islands.

It seemed to us as if we had already seen most of the plants on our hikes in the wild.

I would take the upper entrance again, as you can get some great views and get a good overview. There are a few steps to climb. If you have a stroller, use the lower entrance.

A really fantastic botanical garden. The cacti were all huge. And at the very end we were lucky and the lizard posed especially for us ❤️. And now we're going to the beach 🏖️🙋🏼‍♀️

Today, Sunday, there was another opportunity to go down to the capital (everyone who lives there wants to go to the mountains - the traffic on the oncoming lanes was extreme). We drove to the botanical garden, photo session. Unfortunately breakfast only starts at 9 a.m., so we were actually too late. Nevertheless we were quite successful ...
The botanical …

If you don't just want to go on a beach holiday, this little tour of the flora and fauna of the Canary Islands is a nice change. You can discover many plants, especially cacti, in the wild that you only see in tropical houses here. The variety and the size of the cacti is terrific. In places the park appears …

If you're in the area, it's worth a visit, especially since admission is free. Otherwise, the garden appears somewhat neglected, with the ponds, in particular, overgrown with algae.
