View of Neist Point Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

Neist Point is a beautiful place to visit on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It has a lighthouse that was built in 1909 and is a popular spot for whale watching and birdwatching12. You can walk down to the lighthouse on a concrete path that is steep at times, but offers stunning views of the cliffs and the sea. You might also see some stone cairns that people have built along the way. Neist Point is about 10.5 miles from Dunvegan and 31 miles from Portree by car.

A fairly dilapidated old coastguard lookout station. It offers a bit of protection from the weather and is a fine place to look out to sea and view Neist Point.

A little detour from the crowded footpath to the lighthouse brings you to the top of this cliff 122m above sea level with stunning views

Neist Point Lighthouse

Highlight • Viewpoint

Nestled on a treeless headland facing southwest, Neist Point Lighthouse marks the westernmost tip of the Isle of Skye. On the other hand, Neist Point is an ideal place to experience sunsets in the Inner Hebrides. Neist Point Lighthouse is one of the best known lighthouses in Scotland and, with good reason, is popular with landscape photographers and tourists alike. Due to the southwestern orientation of the headland, it is optimally positioned for sunsets with a view of the lighthouse and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. You will experience loneliness and pure landscape here, if you move a bit off the beaten track.

Neist Point Lighthouse Foghorn

Highlight • Historical Site

This is the old foghorn for the lighthouse. It was active from the 25th of June 1910 until it was replaced with an automated system in 1990 when the lighthouse became unmanned.

By the way, there is a nice path here to a crane and a small quay. The crane was used to bring goods ashore.

Little trip around Neist Point Lighthouse! Lovely walk with some stunning views - hoping to go back for sunset on a clearer day!

Neist Point is the westernmost point of the Isle of Skye. The short hike takes you past spectacular cliffs and still shows installations and winches used for unloading ships. The views across the sea extend all the way to the Outer Hebrides. The first six photos were taken on the drive to this cape.
