Hiking

This moderate 4.5-mile (7.2 km) hike, taking about 2 hours and 14 minutes, offers a rewarding loop through diverse landscapes with 812 feet (247 metres) of elevation gain. You will experience varied terrain, from easily accessible paths to steeper, more challenging sections with rough rock and earth. As you climb towards Callander Crags, you'll find yourself on uneven ground with tree roots and rock steps. The route winds through scenic woodlands of conifer, beech, oak, and birch, eventually opening up to vast moorland. A highlight is the powerful Bracklinn Falls, where the Keltie Water plunges into a rocky gorge, visible from a new weathering steel bridge.

The trail is easily accessible from the town of Callander, a popular tourist destination with amenities. Parking is available at various points, including near Bracklinn Falls and Callander Crags. Be aware that portions of the path can be muddy, especially after rain, so sturdy footwear is recommended for your visit. The ascent to Callander Crags involves steep climbing and requires good fitness, so plan accordingly.

This loop is notable for its dramatic waterfalls and the panoramic views from Callander Crags, which stretch over Callander, the Trossachs, Ben Ledi, and even Stirling Castle. The area also holds geological significance, as Callander Crags and Bracklinn Falls sit on the Highland Boundary Fault, a major feature across Scotland. You can also visit the Jubilee Cairn, restored in 2000, which offers another superb viewpoint.

View of Callander from Callander Craig

Highlight • Forest

Callander Craig is a line of crags along the edge of a forested area north of Callander. Great views to the west and north. You can follow the ridgeline up to the Jubilee Cairn and create a loop across to the Brackland waterfall.

Jubilee Cairn Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Jubilee Cairn was erected in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee. It's a nice walk up to here and the views are magnificent, but the hill is steep, and the cairn stands at 343m which is about 250m higher than Callander.

Bracklinn Falls

Highlight • Waterfall

Currently the bridge is out. So bikes can not cross. You can scramble over the river further up the river. When across the bridge - go left. ***DO NOT GO RIGHT***, this Gorge route is very very dangerous.
