Wieck Hand-operated Drawbridge

This bascule bridge leads over the Ryck River and connects the two Greifswald districts of Eldena and Wieck. It was inaugurated in 1887 and is now one of the oldest still existing and functioning wooden bascule bridges. You can rightly call it a landmark of Greifswald or Wieck. The residents of the Eldena side do not like to hear it at all when Wieck is always mentioned, although Eldena should also be mentioned.

Fun fact: several times a year there are motorists who ignore the bollard signs, want to drive quickly afterwards and wreck their car. The bollard is just very stable. :)
