Ski Memorial (Harzer Wandernadel Stamp Location 19)

Highlight • Monument

The HWN 19 stamp box is attached to the outside of the shelter. A new forest can be discovered in the immediate vicinity. There are many options for hikers: Scharfenstein, Eckertalsperre, Torfhaus, Marienteichbaude and Bad Harzburg.

Our shelters in the Harz National Park are usually located in places worth seeing and are therefore popular hiking destinations. They serve as a short-term rest and break option and as protection in the event of bad weather. Overnight stays are only permitted in an emergency. In the interest of everyone, whether human or animal, our shelters must be kept clean.

The Eckerstausee is fed by various tributaries and is used to supply drinking water and energy: there are two turbines below the dam. If you walk over the 60-meter-high dam wall, you cross the former inner-German border between the FRG and the GDR.

Brocken Summit

Highlight • Summit

The highest peak in the Harz above the tree line. Certainly not the most exciting climb on a mountain bike, but still a must, simply because it's there. ;-)

The Goetheweg from Torfhaus zum Brocken is one of the most popular hiking trails in the Harz National Park. He is named after the famous German poet and thinker Johann Wolfgang Goethe and follows his probable ascent from Torfhaus zum Brocken on December 10, 1777.
