Hunter's Hut in the Kotten Forest

Highlight • Historical Site

The hunter's house is 150 meters away from the most impressive tree in the whole of Kottenforst. It served as a relay station during the par force hunt and you could change horses here, for which a horse stable was located in addition to the lounge. Today the small building is a listed building. The regional forest authority Rhein-Sieg-Erft restored it and has been using it ever since.

Todenfeld Climb — View towards Cologne

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Drive up to a place with the hauntingly beautiful name of Todenfeld... seriously? Yes, but! The Col, which is just before the state border with Rhineland-Palatinate, has established itself as a popular entry point into the Ahrgebirge of the Eifel or as a southern turning point for exits from Cologne. Part of the reason for this is the Permanente, who collects almost 190 vertical meters here every week during winter training.

Behind Rheinbach, turn left at the Waldhotel and then straight up through the Rheinbach Forest with a moderate incline percentage. A first striking feature of the ascent is the forest chapel. The beech log cast in silver, which had given the place of pilgrimage ecclesiastical importance, had to be replaced by a replica after it was stolen, but the further ascent is uphill

Hilberath Ascent

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Edit: The road was freshly asphalted in June/July 2023, so nothing stands in the way of a quick descent.

Still a great climb. BUT: Unfortunately, the road suffered a lot with the flood last year. As a descent, the route is unfortunately only to be enjoyed with caution. The asphalt is loosening, the middle of the road has deep grooves, etc.

February 23, 2025,Durch den Kottenforst nach Todenfeld
After a knee injury in November and being bedridden for almost four weeks, I took advantage of the wonderful weather on election Sunday (thanks to postal voting) for my first ride of the year. I used the weeks of the break to build myself a "new" bike, now 30 years old instead of a 40-year-old frame. Thanks to SLX tubes, …
