Rur

Highlight • River

In this section you can already speak of the Rur. It has slowly reached the dimensions of a river. When you think back to the upper part of the Rur, where it was a river, you do not know where all the water comes from.

The left side of the Rur is really nice to cycle along the river. Sometimes it is a leisurely river and sometimes it even looks a little wilder (at the numerous weirs).

Rur in Pierer Forest

Highlight (Segment) • River

Here the Rur flows a little more calmly and you can relax a little. The Rur meadows offer a little variety. The path is natural but is easy to cycle on due to the good compaction. Be careful on Sundays and public holidays as there are not only a lot of cyclists but also pedestrians.

The RurUfer cycle path is a cycle path that runs along the Rur for around 180 kilometers. It begins near the Rur springs at the highest elevation in Belgium, the Botrange in the High Fens, and leads to the mouth of the Maas in Roermond, the Netherlands. In between, the route runs mostly on German territory. At Kalterherberg, the path crosses the Belgian-German border and runs through Monschau on the Obersee and the Rur dam to Heimbach. From there, it continues north through Nideggen and Kreuzau through the Düren district and then through the Heinsberg district. Behind the Effelder Waldsee, the cycle path crosses the German-Dutch border. It ends at the mouth of the Rur in Roermond.

The route runs almost exclusively on separate cycle and farm paths. The RurUfer cycle path is part of the NRW cycle network and is signposted with the typical red and white signposts. On the sections in Belgium and the Netherlands, junction-based signage is used.

Rur River near Jülich

Highlight • River

There is currently a lot of construction going on along the RUR in Jülich. Cycle traffic is therefore being diverted onto the busy road several times.
